What to do in San Gavino di Fiumorbu ?

San Gavinu is a small village nestled in the heart of a beautiful and luxuriant nature made up of hundred years old chestnut trees, oaks, and a maquis that the procession of the seasons dresses up in its most beautiful attire. Originally, it was only a small transhumance village situated at an altitude of 450 metres. It is surrounded by numerous water points, rivers, tumultuous torrents, pure and crystalline springs which are as many places of refreshing bathing, rest, climbing, fishing... This barrier of greenery, this enclosed situation which isolates it from the rest of the world, dresses it in mystery and gives this small village even more authenticity and originality. San Gavinu di Fiumorbu is located at the crossroads of three major itineraries of the Natural Regional Park of Corsica, Fra li Monti, Mare a Mare Centre and Mare e Monti. With its rest house and sports facilities, this exceptional site, known as Catastaghju, was the headquarters of the forest operation company FORTEF (Forces et Terres du Fium’orbu). TO VISIT: - The Chapel - of Saint Antoine Abbé: in the Baroque style, it dates from the end of the 17th century and was restored in 1850 by a Florentine painter. The three statues in the sacristy have retained their original appearance. The statue of Saint Antoine-Abbé is in polychromic wood. The blue that dominates the frescos add a touch of modernity to this chapel. - The Monument to the Dead: decorated with a «Descente de Croix» sculpted in a block of pink granite. Not to be missed: the nightly procession of the penitent carrying the cross every Good Friday. On August 25th: for Saint Louis, Mass and Procession followed by a great ball run by young people and lovers of dancing nights from all over the region.
