Marais del Sale / Pinia
Marshes, lagoons and pinewoods... the Natura 2000 site of the Marais del Sale and Pinia is an invitation to discover. With its Mediterranean flora and rare animal species, it's one of the wildest spots on the eastern coastline.
This Natura 2000 site is divided into 2 separate parts and has been designated a Special Area of Conservation due to the great diversity of habitats present, including a stand of large-fruited juniper, the largest in Corsica (priority habitat). The site boasts a wide variety of flora, particularly in the small, more or less brackish Pinia marshes, which include a station of 5-fruited Kosteleskia (listed in appendix II of the directive) and several rare species such as Bassia hirsute and Cressa de Corse.
In addition, there are animal species listed in appendix II, such as the hermann tortoise, the European pond terrapin, the greater and lesser rhinolophus, the silver-eared bat, the barbastelle and the Corsican hairstreak.
