CORSICA LIRICA is an innovative concept in opera competition. It's the first competition of its kind in Europe, requiring a work to be performed in the regional language of the area in which it takes place.
The idea was born in 2020. At the time, the co-founder of the event, mezzo soprano Katerina Kovanji, had recorded the eponymous album "Corsica Lirica", in which she performed a selection of modern and popular Corsican songs in an operatic version, accompanied by the piano.
Her admiration for the Corsican island repertoire is so strong that she immediately wanted to share this marvel with the rest of the world.
Katerina Kovanji, who has become the event's artistic director, has come up with the best way of achieving this: to create an international opera competition to bring top-level professional singers to Corsica. But also to get them to perform both the usual repertoire and songs in the Corsican language.
Like any idea, it could never have existed without support.
