Ghisonaccia is the only municipality in France to have two award-winning trees.
The walk starts from Saint-Michel Church and can be done on foot, by bike and it is also a car ride. (About 5 kilometres)
Take the road to the left of the church. Go straight ahead. You will go along olive groves, fi elds of citrus fruits, hazel trees and immortal trees. Aft er 2 kilometres, on the left you will see a sign informing the presence of the two remarkable trees. Keep going on 1 kilometre 500, you will reach an intersection. There, another sign will show you the direction (on the left ). 500 metres further on, still on your left , you can admire the first remarkable tree: the 10-century old mastic pistachio tree, this millenary tree won the public prize in 2011 during the competition for the most beautiful tree of the year organised by the magazine «Terre Sauvage». A few hundred meters away, sti ll in the same directi on, you can admire the «the bird tree» called “Arburacellu” in Corsican. This cork oak tree was elected Tree of the year 2018 and it is 200 to 230 years old and has corky protuberances on the trunk that give it the appearance of a perfectly symmetrical raptor.
These remarkable trees are witnesses of the past of our region and take us back to hundreds of years, to a ti me when the Plaine Orientale was still swampy and sparsely inhabited.
Take the time to look at them and give free rein to your imagination...
